Rooted in myth and brought to life by collaboration, Simultaneously 1, 3, 5 and 9 investigates the spatial qualities of motion. The dancers who perform are trained in contemporary improvisation techniques and older narrative styles including Han Dynasty and Kathak Indian dance, informing the hand gestures in the film.

This emphasis on hands as instruments of expression and transferred of cultural knowledge shares a subtle alchemy with the ancient myths of Kourests and Dactyles where hands protects as well as pass down culture. Benevolent and mysterious figures from Crete, inventors of dance and metalwork respectively, mythos of the Kouretes and Dactyles are varied and ambiguous, even the number of figures themselves changing with each version. Often interchangeable, one outstanding tale is the Dactyle creation myth. As Rhea gave birth to Zeus, in an act of protection, she dug her fingers in the dirt to stifle her childbirth screams so Zeu's father would not hear. The Dactyls sprang up from the soil beneath her fingers: ten Dactyls, ten fingers.

The installation, film, printed matter and scents unveil a story which has no linear relation. Through disruption, layering, reordering and incorporating all the senses, Sweidan creates a space for the ambiguous. Sweidan's work juxtaposes the ephemeral (plant material and scent), with the timeliness (narrative dance with a 200-year lineage). Experiences occur simultaneously yet separately. Magically yet in the real.
